Tips On Selecting A Reliable Contractor

Don’t hesitate to ask any contractor that you are considering for a copy of their license, insurance and/or for a list of references. Any legitimate contractor is licensed, bonded, and insured and will have no problem providing their potential clients with that documentation. Asking for a list of references is good as well, but be advised that most contractors will have already vetted that list to include people that will likely sing their praises.

Sure, Facebook and Google are places where you can see or ask for quick reviews but keep in mind that those, a lot of the time, are just a snapshot of business performance, especially if it’s a bad review. One of my personal mottos is always to trust my gut. It may seem very attractive to choose a contractor based on pricing, but if you don’t have a good gut feeling about the company working on your home, you have to consider what you might be giving up in quality or service with that low-low price. Benjamin Franklin once said, “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of a low price is forgotten,” and there have never been truer words, especially when it comes to construction. Go with a company you will feel comfortable calling if there is a problem with your project down the road.

Choosing a contractor can difficult, and sometimes it feels more like you’re making a leap of faith rather than an educated decision, but the following tips should help you make the best choice for yourself and your home.
